Muir Woods National Monument: Visitor FAQ
Do I need a reservation to visit Muir Woods?
Yes. Reservations are mandatory for all vehicles and shuttle passengers. Parking spots often sell out weeks in advance, especially for mid-morning times and weekends. We recommend booking at GoMuirWoods.com as soon as you confirm your stay at Marin Suites.
How far is Muir Woods from Marin Suites?
We are one of the closest hotels to the monument! Marin Suites is located just 8 miles away. In normal traffic, the drive takes approximately 20 minutes, making it easy to visit the redwoods and be back in Corte Madera for lunch.
Is there cell service or WiFi at Muir Woods?
No. There is zero cell service or WiFi in or around the park. Pro Tip: Download or print your parking reservation barcode before you leave the hotel. You will not be able to pull it up from your email once you arrive at the park gates.
Can I take an Uber or Lyft to Muir Woods?
You can take a rideshare to the park, but because there is no cell service, you cannot call one for the return trip. To avoid being stranded, we recommend driving yourself with a parking reservation or booking a seat on the Muir Woods Shuttle.
Are dogs allowed at Muir Woods?
No. To protect the local wildlife and the delicate redwood ecosystem, pets are not permitted inside the monument. However, many nearby spots like Muir Beach and the Coastal Trail are pet-friendly.
What is the best time to visit to avoid crowds?
The "Golden Hour" for Muir Woods is 8 AM. Arriving early allows you to experience the "cathedral of redwoods" in near-total silence before the tour buses arrive. Plus, the morning fog creates stunning photography opportunities.
Is Muir Woods wheelchair and stroller accessible?
Yes! The main canyon floor features 1.5 miles of flat, boardwalked trails that are fully accessible. There are loops of varying lengths (30, 60, or 90 minutes) that allow everyone to experience the old-growth forest comfortably.
How much does it cost to enter Muir Woods?
There are three separate costs to keep in mind:
- Parking Reservation: ~$10 per standard vehicle.
- Entrance Fee: $15 per adult (16+). Children 15 and under are free.
