SAUSALITO WATERFRONT

Mediterranean Charm on the San Francisco Bay

Often described as the "Amalfi Coast of California," Sausalito is a picturesque seaside community where steep hillside villas overlook a sparkling, yacht-filled harbor. Once a gritty shipyard during WWII, the town has transformed into a refined sanctuary for artists, foodies, and sailors. Walking along Bridgeway, the town's main thoroughfare, you’ll find a curated collection of world-class art galleries, sophisticated boutiques, and waterfront restaurants that offer front-row seats to the San Francisco skyline. Whether you’re watching the ferry pull into the pier or exploring the whimsical "houseboat row," Sausalito embodies the effortless elegance of bayside living.

PROXIMITY & THE FERRY

The Ultimate Commute

Located just 5 miles south of Marin Suites, Sausalito is a brief 10-to-12-minute drive down Highway 101. For a truly memorable experience, many of our guests choose to drive to Sausalito and board the Golden Gate Ferry for a scenic 30-minute ride into San Francisco’s Ferry Building. This allows you to enjoy the best of the city during the day while returning to the peace and quiet of Marin Suites in the evening—avoiding city traffic and parking altogether.

CULINARY & COASTAL CULTURE

A Feast for the Senses

Sausalito’s culinary scene is as diverse as its history. From the legendary burgers at the no-frills Caledonia Street local haunts to Michelin-recognized seafood spots hanging directly over the water, there is a flavor for every palate. Beyond the plate, the town is a hub for "California Cool" culture; visit the historic Heath Ceramics factory to see world-renowned stoneware being crafted by hand, or take a sunset stroll through Viña del Mar Park to admire the iconic elephant statues and fountain.

SAUSALITO VISITOR FAQ

How do I get to the San Francisco Ferry?

The Sausalito Ferry Terminal is located in the heart of downtown on Bridgeway. You can purchase tickets at the kiosks on the pier or use your Clipper Card.

Is parking difficult?

The public lots along the waterfront (Lots 1 through 4) fill up quickly on weekends. We recommend arriving before 11 AM. Metered street parking is also available.

What are the "Houseboats"?

Sausalito is home to a famous floating home community at the northern end of town (near Gate 5 Road). While these are private residences, you can walk the public docks to see the unique designs.

Is Sausalito walkable?

The downtown waterfront area is very flat and highly walkable. The residential hills, however, feature very steep inclines and historic stairways for those looking for a workout.

What should I wear?

Because of its position on the bay, Sausalito can be significantly cooler than Corte Madera. Layers are essential, as the bayside breeze can be chilly even on sunny days.
